Arabic vocabulary
How to say “forbidding” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا صَبْرٌ لَهُ عَلَى الْأَمْرِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْيِ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ
And he has no patience for enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong.
وَالنَّهْيِ — and forbidding. Here wa- pairs two matched duties, 'enjoining right' and 'forbidding wrong', binding them into one familiar formula rather than a loose list. After it comes an action-noun ('the forbidding') with al- making it definite. The wa- of pairing keeps the two halves balanced.
