How to say “god” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَنْ قَالَ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
Then whoever says, "There is no god but Allah" will come out of the Fire.
إِلٰهَ — god. The noun whose existence is denied, governed by the preceding negator and taking the bare clipped ending the 'there is no...' frame assigns. With the negator it states that no such being exists.

For this reason, the title of monotheism is "There is no god but Allah", in contrast to one who merely acknowledges His lordship.
إِلَه — a god. The noun governed by the existential 'there is no', whose existence is denied, 'a god'. It takes the special form that negator requires, and the upcoming exception will carve out the one allowed exception.
