Arabic vocabulary
How to say “hardship” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَذَلِكَ شَيْء لَا تَعب عَلَيْك فِيهِ وَلَا نصب وَلَا معاناة
And this is something that does not burden you with effort, nor toil, nor hardship.
مُعَانَاةٍ — hardship. A Form III action-noun naming the drawn-out enduring of suffering; the Form III pattern carries that sense of a sustained, mutual struggle. Indefinite again, it caps the list: no such ordeal is involved.
From: Repentance and Resolve →لَيْسَ هُوَ عملا بالجوارح يشق عَلَيْك معاناته
It is not an action of the limbs that causes you hardship in its endeavor.
مُعَانَاتُهُ — its suffering. A Form III action-noun, 'the enduring of it', with '-hu' pointing back to the work; it is the delayed subject of 'weighs hard'. So literally 'its enduring weighs hard on you', the very thing the sentence denies.
