How to say “his back” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَدْ جُعِلَ لَهَا مَثَلُ الْحَوِيَّةِ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ،
And indeed something like a small pouch was placed on his back for her.
ظَهْرِهِ — his back. This noun, 'back', has the 'his' pronoun on its end and sits in the genitive because the 'on' before it governs it. Arabic attaches the owner straight onto the noun. So 'on his back' is built from a preposition plus a possessed noun in the genitive.
