How to say “small pouch” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَدْ جُعِلَ لَهَا مَثَلُ الْحَوِيَّةِ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ،
And indeed something like a small pouch was placed on his back for her.
الْحَوِيَّةِ — the small pouch. This noun carries al- 'the' and is the owner half of the 'likeness of...' pairing, so it sits in the genitive. Arabic builds 'something like the pouch' by setting the two nouns side by side, the genitive ending marking the 'of'. So it names what the rigged-up thing resembled.
