  There was a sheikh who went from gathering to gathering and would say: Whoever wants his well-being to last, let him fear God.

  سَرُّهُ — is pleased his. A past-tense verb meaning 'it pleased/gladdened', with a 'him' object suffix on the end, so it reads 'it pleased him'. The grammar runs backwards from English: the person is the object 'him', and the thing that pleases, the wish stated next, is the subject. So 'whoever it pleases that...' becomes 'whoever wants that...'.
