How to say “I drink” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَقُولُ، يَا بُنْيَّ تَعَلَّمْ أَنَّي لَا أَشْرَبُ نَهَارًا
So I say, my son, know that I do not drink during the day.
أَشْرَبُ — I drink. A first-person present-tense verb, 'I drink', with the 'I' built into its prefix. Under the negator before it, it states a standing habit that is denied. The present shape here covers a general, repeated truth about the speaker, not a one-time event.
From: Mothers and the Companions →وَانْ شُرْبِ ذَكَرَ اِسْمِ اللَّهِ فَلَا أَشْرَبُ مَعَهُ
If he drinks after saying the name of God, I will not drink with him.
أَشْرَبُ — I will drink. A present-tense verb 'I drink' with the 'I' subject built in, under the negator, so it reads 'I do not drink'. It is the result clause of the condition.
