How to say “I was able” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَفَعَلَتْ حَتَّى إِذَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا
So she did until when I was able upon her.
قَدَرْتُ — I was able. A past-tense verb carrying its own 'I' subject in the '-tu' ending, so no separate pronoun appears. It governs the following 'upon her' phrase: the ability is exercised over something, which is why a preposition rather than a plain object completes the thought.
