How to say “she did” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَفَعَلَتْ حَتَّى إِذَا قَدَرْتُ عَلَيْهَا
So she did until when I was able upon her.
فَفَعَلَتْ — so she did. A past-tense verb with the feminine 'she' subject folded into the '-at' ending, so no separate word for 'she' is needed. The opening 'fa-' chains this back to the previous sentence as a result: she acted in consequence of what was just said. Arabic packs the subject inside the verb the way English never does.
From: Trapped and Delivered →فأردتها على نفسها فامتنعت منى حتى ألمّت بها سنة من السنين فجاءتنى فأعطيتها عشرين ومائة دينار على أن تخلى بينى وبين نفسها ففعلت، حتى إذا قدرت عليها
I returned her to her own custody, but she withheld herself from me until a year of the years befell her. Then she came to me and I gave her one hundred and twenty dinars on the condition that she relinquish between me and her self; she did so, until when I gained power over her.
ففعلت — so she did so. This pairs the connector fa- ('so/then') with a past-tense verb holding 'she', 'so she did so'. The fa- marks her compliance as the upshot of the deal, with the act left general, standing for the agreed step.
