Arabic vocabulary
How to say “it” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقال جحا لو كنت تعلم أن الدواء يوضع في الفم ما أعطيتني إياه لعين
Joha said, 'If you knew that the medicine should go in the mouth, why did you give it to me for the eye!'
إِيَّاهُ — it. A standalone object pronoun, 'it', used because the verb already carries one attached object and cannot take a second on its tail. Arabic has a special detached form for an object that has to stand on its own, here pointing back to the medicine.
