How to say “leader” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
جد سيدنا ومولانا الإمام الواجبة ومخالفه جاهلي في مذهبي
The ancestor of our master and lord, the Imam whose obedience is obligatory, and whoever opposes him is ignorant in my view.
سَيِّدِنَا — our master. The attached -na adds 'our', fusing the possessor onto the noun. It owns the grandfather just before it and is itself owned within the longer chain, sitting in the -i possessor slot.
From: The Story of Prophet Joseph →فنهس منها نهسة وقال أنا سيد الناس يوم القيامة،
He took a bite from it and said, "I am the leader of the people on the Day of Resurrection."
سَيِّدُ — the leader. A noun that serves as the 'am' half of the sentence, the predicate paired with the 'I' before it; Arabic needs no verb 'to be' in the present, so the bare noun does that work. It also opens a possessive pairing, owning the noun after it.
