How to say “light” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ياعجبا من يُغطي عين ضوء الشَّمْس فِي نصف النَّهَار
How amazing is one who covers the eye of the sun's light at midday!
ضَوْءِ — the light. Sitting in the middle of an 'of' chain, this word is both owned (by 'eye') and owner (of 'sun'), which is why it carries the genitive '-i'. Arabic stacks possession like this with no 'of' words at all, just nouns in a row each leaning on the next.
