Arabic vocabulary
How to say “like” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وعلى عمه الذي قال فيه الرسول عمي وصنو أبي،
And upon his uncle, of whom the Prophet said: 'He is my uncle and like my father.'
وَصِنْوُ — and like. This is wa- joined to a noun meaning a twin or counterpart, opening a possessive pairing 'and the counterpart of my father'. The wa- coordinates it with 'my uncle' in the quote, and the pairing sets it directly before its owner with no word for 'of'.
