Anas ibn Malik says, "I heard the Messenger of God say."
مَالِكٍ — Malik. The father's name completing 'son of...', in the genitive shape. As the second member of the side-by-side pair it takes the genitive ending.

Anas ibn Malik reported:
مَالِكٍ — Malik. Malik, the father in 'son of Malik', set right after 'son of' with no word for 'of'. As the owner term it takes the genitive (possessor) ending, completing the patronymic.
