Arabic vocabulary
How to say “not” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَنْ أَبَطْأَ بِهِ عَمَلُهُ لَمْ يُسْرِعْ بِهِ نَسَبُهُ
And whoever is slowed by his deeds will not be hastened forward by his lineage.
لَمْ — will not. This small word does two jobs at once: it turns the present-tense verb after it into a negated past ('did not'), and it clips that verb's ending to a bare stop. So the verb ahead looks present but means 'will not / did not'.
