Arabic vocabulary
How to say “old” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قال رجل منهم اللهم كان لي أبوان شيخان كبيران، وكنت لا أغبق قبلهما أهلاً ولا مالاً
One of them said: 'O Allah, I had elderly parents, and I never provided drink to my family or wealth before them.'
كَبِيرَانِ — old. This is a second dual adjective stacked onto the parents, again carrying the dual ending to agree with the pair. Two such adjectives in a row pile up the description (aged and elderly), each matching the noun's 'exactly two' shape.
