Arabic vocabulary
How to say “overpowered” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَهَرَهُ، وَمَنَعَهُ عَنِ الْوُصُولِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ،
Then he overpowered him and prevented him from reaching the mosque.
فَقَهَرَهُ — then he overpowered him. The fa- here is narrative sequence, 'and so', moving the story on to the outcome. The verb is a completed-action 'he overpowered' carrying the object -hu ('him') on the end, so subject and object both ride in one word. The connector marks the result of the grappling.
