  وَيَمْنَعُ — and withholds. 'And' plus a present-tense verb 'withholds / denies', subject 'He' inside. The opposite of 'gives'.

  Then he overpowered him and prevented him from reaching the mosque.

  وَمَنَعَهُ — and he prevented him. The wa- joins a second outcome, 'and he barred him', pairing it with the overpowering. The verb carries its 'he' subject and the object -hu ('him') on the end, again fusing both into one word. The connector links the two consequences as a single sweep of defeat.
