Arabic vocabulary
How to say “overwhelms” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقْهَرُ دَاءُهُ قُوَّتَهُ وَيَكُونُ السُّلطانُ لِلْداءِ
And among them are those whose illness overwhelms their strength, and the dominion is for the disease.
يَقْهَرُ — overwhelms. A present-tense verb 'overpowers', with its subject following. Word order here matters: the noun right after is the doer and the next noun the thing overpowered, which is how Arabic tells who beats whom when both are present.
