Arabic vocabulary
How to say “parent (father/mother)” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَعْجَبَ وَالِدَيْهِ فَأَنْفَقَا عَلَيْهِ كُلَّ مَكْنُونٍ،
He amazed his parents, so they spent all their hoarded wealth on him.
وَالِدَيْهِ — his parents. A dual noun 'two parents' with the attached possessor '-hi' = 'his', the direct object of 'amazed', hence accusative. The dual form names exactly two, the mother and father, and the suffix marks them as his.
