Arabic vocabulary
شريك is how you say “partner” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
شريك is the everyday, neutral word for a partner or associate — in business, marriage, or any joint undertaking. The same root also produces شِرْك, the Islamic term for attributing partners to God, so in religious contexts the root carries much heavier theological weight than شريك itself does.
Definitions synthesised from Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon (E. W. Lane, 1863–1893).
فَمَتَى أَعَانَهَا فَهُوَ شَرِيكُهَا فِي فَسَادِهَا
Whenever he aids it, he becomes a partner in its corruption.
شَرِيكُهَا — a partner in it. 'sharik' = 'partner'; '-ha' = 'its', so 'its partner'.
