Arabic vocabulary
How to say “pass by” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَوْ يَظُنُّ الَّذِي يُبَارِزُنِي أَنْ يَسْبِقَنِي أَوْ يُفَوِّتَنِي؟
Or does the one who challenges me think that he will get ahead of me or pass me by?
يُفَوِّتَنِي — pass me by. This verb is built on a pattern meaning to make something slip past, and it carries the subjunctive shape from the earlier 'that', with -ni ('me') fused to its end as the object. So one word means 'pass me by' as a supposed outcome. The changed ending marks it hypothetical and the pronoun is the speaker.
