How to say “pasture” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فالنفس كالدابة، إن أحسنت عِلفها ومَشْيها وصلت بك إلى المرعى، وإن أطلقت لها العِنان أوردتك مورد الهلكة
For the soul is like a beast; if you nurture and guide it well, it will lead you to pasture, but if you give it free rein, it will bring you to destruction.
المَرْعَى — pasture. 'al-' = 'the'; 'mar'a' = 'pasture, grazing land', so 'the pasture'.
From: Small Daily Habits →ولا تكن كالبهيمة التي لا همَّ لها إلا مرعاها،
and do not be like the beast whose only concern is its pasture,
مَرْعَاهَا — its pasture. This is the thing excepted, the beast's only concern, with -ha meaning 'its'. The noun and its 'its' form an 'of' link, 'its pasture', the sole thing left standing after the 'nothing except' frame.
