Arabic vocabulary
How to say “pray” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ دَاعِياً لَهُ،
And he wipes his head, praying for him.
دَاعِياً — praying. An active participle (a 'doer' word) set in the accusative to describe the state the subject is in while wiping: he does it 'while praying'. This accusative-of-state construction is how Arabic shows two actions happening at once, where English would use 'while' plus a verb.
