'Aad denied, so how was My punishment and My warnings?
عَذَابِي — My punishment. This noun is what the 'was' clause is about, and 'my' is fused to its end, pointing to the divine speaker. The attached owner makes 'my punishment' in one unit, and within the question it stands as the thing whose nature is being asked about.

عَذَابًا — a punishment. An indefinite noun 'a punishment' (no al- 'the'), the object of 'prepared' in the accusative (object) form. Its indefinite shape leaves it as 'some punishment', soon qualified by 'great'. As the thing prepared, it is what the verb acts upon.
