Arabic vocabulary
How to say “reckoner” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ولا قوة إلا بالله فاقرأ كتابك كفى بنفسك عليك حسيبا ،
And there is no power except with God, so read your book; sufficient are you as a reckoner against yourself,
حَسِيبًا — a reckoner. This indefinite noun, 'a reckoner, an accountant', is in the object ending because it specifies in what capacity 'you' suffice: enough as a reckoner. Arabic uses this object ending to mark such a 'specifying' role, clarifying the respect in which the sufficiency holds.
