They opened until the river roared, until the streams surged,
ارْتَجَّتِ — it roared. A past-tense verb on a reflexive pattern meaning 'surged / shook with sound', with a feminine subject that follows. The reflexive shape conveys the river heaving of itself, and the verb stands before its subject in normal Arabic order.
