Arabic vocabulary
How to say “was opened” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فتحت حتى ارتجت النهر، حتى عجت الغدر،
They opened until the river roared, until the streams surged,
فُتِحَتْ — so they were opened. This is the passive form of the verb: the clouds are the ones opened, and the opener is left unnamed. Arabic adds no helper word like 'were'; it marks the passive by reshaping the verb's inner vowels, so the action lands on its receiver, the clouds, who are the unstated subject.
