How to say “shadow” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَإِنَّ الْمَالَ ظِلٌّ زَائِلٌ وَأَمْرٌ حَائِلٌ،
For wealth is a fleeting shadow and a thing that obstructs.
ظِلٌّ — a shadow. This noun is the comment made about the wealth, the predicate completing the inna statement ('wealth is a shadow'). It takes the plain subject-style ending, which is the form a predicate noun wears even though inna put its topic in the accusative.
