  الْأَمَةُ — a slave woman. The doer of the giving-birth verb, a noun with al- ('the'), in the nominative as the subject. Placed after its verb in the normal verb-then-doer order, it identifies who acts. Its feminine sense agrees with the feminine verb before it.
