How to say “spell out” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لِأَنَّهُ إِنْ كَانَ قَارِئًا بِنَفْسِهِ فَبِجَهْدِهِ أَنْ يَتَهَجَّى الأَسْمَاءَ وَالمُتُونَ
Because if he is reading by his own self, then by his effort that he spell out the names and the texts.
يَتَهَجَّى — spell out. A present-tense verb pushed into the subjunctive by the 'that' just before it, so its ending shifts from the plain present. It means 'spell out letter by letter', framed as the effortful aim he labours toward rather than something already done.
