لِأَنَّهُ إِنْ كَانَ قَارِئًا بِنَفْسِهِ فَبِجَهْدِهِ أَنْ يَتَهَجَّى الأَسْمَاءَ وَالمُتُونَ
Because if he is reading by his own self, then by his effort that he spell out the names and the texts.
والمُتُونَ — and the texts. The connector wa- adds a second object alongside 'the names', on a definite plural noun (al-) 'the texts'. The wa- pairs the two objects of the same verb, this noun sharing the accusative object role with the names it joins.
