How to say “Sufyān” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
مُظْلِمَةٍ مَطِرَةٍ وَقَدْ نَزَلَ أَبُو سُفْيَانُ
It was a dark, rainy night, and Abu Sufyan had arrived.
سُفْيَان — Sufyan. This is the second half of the name, the part 'father of' was waiting for; together they form one person's title. As the completion of the doer of 'had arrived', it tells you exactly who the arriver is. Arabic builds such names as a possessive-style pair, which is why the two pieces cannot be split.
From: A Spy in the Enemy Camp →حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ وَجَاءَ السَحَرُ قَامَ أَبُو سُفْيَانُ
When dawn arrived, Abu Sufyan stood up.
سُفْيَان — Sufyan. This is the second half of the name, the part 'father of' was waiting for, completing the one who stood up. Together the two pieces name a single person. The pairing works like a possessive chain, so they cannot be split.
