How to say “terror” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَشَاهَدْنَا هَوْلًا يَمْلَأُ الأَنْفُسَ إِنَابَةً وَنَدَامَةً،
So we saw a terror that filled the souls with repentance and remorse,
هولًا — terror. An indefinite noun (it carries the -an tanwin, not al-) that is the thing seen, the object of the verb before it. Its accusative ending marks it as the target of the seeing, and its indefiniteness presents it as something newly introduced.
