How to say “the love of” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ الشَّهَوَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْبَنِينَ وَالْقَنَاطِيرِ الْمُقَنْطَرَةِ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ
People were made to find attractive the love of desires: women and sons, and the piled-up heaps of gold and silver.
حُبُّ — the love of. A noun 'love' heading a possessive link — 'love of ...' — placed directly before its owner with no separate 'of'. As the owned head it drops its own 'the' and takes definiteness from the following word. It is the thing made attractive, the subject of the passive verb.
