Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the righteous” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَكَانَ إِلَى الْقَرِيَةِ الصَّالِحَةِ أَقْرَبَ بِشِبْرٍ فَجُعِلَ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا
So he was an inch closer to the righteous village and was made one of its people.
الصَّالِحَةِ — the righteous. This is a describing word that follows its noun and copies its features: it is definite (with 'al-'), in the same genitive case, and feminine, all matching 'village'. This four-way matching is how Arabic ties an adjective unambiguously to the right noun, where English just relies on word order.
