How to say “the river” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ لَهُ الْقَامِرُ اِشْرَبْ مَا فِي النُّهُرِ
Then the moon said to him, "Drink what is in the river."
النَّهر — the river. A definite noun ('the river') in the form the preposition 'in' requires of it. The article 'al-' marks it as the known river of the story. Whether it is read as singular or plural, its case is set by the 'in' that governs it.
