وَهَذَا حَالٌ كَثِيرٌ مِّنَ الْمُتَفَقِّرَةِ وَالْمُتَصَوِّفَةِ
And this is the condition of many of the ascetics and the Sufis.
وَالْمُتَصَوِّفَةِ — and the Sufis. A wa- 'and' fused to a definite plural noun naming a second group, coordinating 'the Sufis' with the ascetics before it. It shares the same after-preposition ending under the partitive 'of'. Together the two nouns form the set the 'many' come from.
