Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the threshold” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلِيُ لَهُ غَيَّرَ عَتَبَةَ بَابِهِ
And when I told him, he changed the threshold of his door.
عَتَبَةَ — the threshold. This noun heads a possessive pairing with 'his door' that follows, so it reads 'threshold of...', and it is the direct object of the changing verb, in the object form. As the front half of the pairing it draws its definiteness from the owning noun after it. So it is both object and the start of an of-relationship.
