  وَأَدْرَكُوا — and they perceived. The connector wa- ('and') fused onto a past-tense 'they' verb (the -u tail marks the plural subject). The wa- adds 'and they perceived' to the previous 'they knew', a second verb in the heap. The repeated structure stacks near-synonyms to intensify the certainty.

• فَأَدْرَكُوهُمْ فَأَخَذُوهُمْ،

  Then they caught up with them and seized them.

  فَأَدْرَكُوهُمْ — then caught up with them. Three pieces fused: fa- ('then') for sequence, a past verb 'caught up with' carrying its 'they' subject, and the object suffix -hum ('them'). One word thus says 'then they caught up with them'; the -hum points to the men being pursued.
