Arabic vocabulary
How to say “they knew” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ اِنْفَتَحَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمَا وَعَلِمَا أَنَّهُمَا عُرْيَانَانِ،
At that moment their eyes opened, and they realized they were naked.
وَعَلِمَا — and they both realized. 'Wa-' adds the next action, attaching to a past verb in the dual: '-a' on the end marks exactly two doers, Adam and Eve, realising together. The dual is a dedicated 'precisely two' form English lacks, folding 'the two of them' into the verb itself.
