Arabic vocabulary
How to say “they thought” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَظَنُّوا أَنَّ وَلَدَهُ يَتَغَيَّرُ عَلَيْهِ
And they thought that his son would change their minds about him.
وَظَنُّوا — and they thought. A coordinating wa- ('and') on a past-tense verb with the plural 'they' inside; this is a verb of thinking, which opens a 'that...' clause as its object. The wa- chains the supposing onto the prior action.
