Arabic vocabulary
How to say “his son” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
كَمَا قَدْ يُحِبُّ الرَّجُلُ وَلَدَهُ وَصَدِيقَهُ
Just as a man may love his son and his friend.
وَلَده — and his son. This bundles the linking wa- with a noun and a tail -hu, 'his', making 'and his son' the object of the loving. The suffix attaches the possessor directly to the noun, so ownership is built into the word rather than expressed by a separate word.
From: Faith and Worship →جَاءَ فِي بَعْضِ الْأَخْبَارِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى لَمَّا خَلَقَ آدَمَ وَوَلَدَهُ
Some reports say that when Allah the Exalted created Adam and his offspring.
وَوَلَدَهُ — and his offspring. This joins the linker 'wa-' to a noun that has '-hu' ('his') fused on, giving 'and his offspring'. The 'wa-' couples this second object onto Adam, and the noun stays in the object ending as the rest of what was created; the '-hu' points back to Adam.
From: The Four Inner Guards →وَظَنُّوا أَنَّ وَلَدَهُ يَتَغَيَّرُ عَلَيْهِ
And they thought that his son would change their minds about him.
وَلَدَهُ — his son. A noun with -hu fixing 'his' to it, the subject of the 'that' clause but wearing the object-style ending the emphasis-particle imposes on its subject. The 'his' points back to the man, marking the son as his.
