قَالَ أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفًا دِرْهَمًا تَسْتَعِينُ بِهَا عَلَى مَا أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ
He said, "Forty thousand dirhams to help you with your present condition."
أَلْفًا — thousand. A counted noun 'thousand' in the singular-accusative shape that Arabic requires after a numeral like this, a 'distinguishing' noun naming what is counted. The singular form here is normal even though many are meant.
