How to say “to be asked” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قُلْتُ فَإِنْ كُفِيتَ ذَلِكَ وَدُعِيتَ إِلَى الْجَمَالِ وَالْمَالِ وَالشَرَفِ وَالْكَفَاءَةِ أَلا تُجِيبُ؟
I said: If that would be enough, and you were asked for beauty, wealth, honor, and suitability, would you not answer?
وَدُعِيتَ — and you are asked. The connector wa- ('and') fused to a past passive verb ('you were called/invited'): again the internal vowels, not a helper word, mark the subject as the one receiving the action. The wa- coordinates this with the previous passive condition.
