Arabic vocabulary
How to say “toward their mother” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَبَرُّ مَنْ كَانَا فِي هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بِأُمِّهِمَا
More dutiful to their mother than anyone in this community.
بِأُمِّهِمَا — to their mother. This packs the preposition bi- ('to, toward') with a noun and a DUAL possessive '-hima' (their, of two), giving 'to their (two persons') mother'. The dual suffix is notable: it agrees with the two sons, marking the mother as shared by exactly two. With the dutifulness word, bi- marks the one the devotion is directed at.
