Arabic vocabulary
How to say “was made ignorant” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَجُهِّلَ الإِنْسَانُ بِحُقُوقِ الْمُنْعِمِ مِنْ أَخْسِ صِفَاتِهِ،
A person's ignorance of the rights of the benefactor is among his most despicable traits.
وَجُهِّلَ — and was made ignorant. The front wa- opens a new statement, and the verb under it is a passive on a 'made-to-be' pattern: the person is acted upon, made ignorant, rather than doing anything. Arabic marks the passive by changing the vowels inside the verb, not by adding a helper like 'was'. So a learner reads the role-reversal off the verb's shape itself.
