Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wasted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وأعوذ بالله أن أكون قد ضيعت الزمان في نعت بطلة الطلبة ،
And I seek refuge in God from having wasted time in praising a useless student,
ضَيَّعْتُ — I wasted. This is a past-tense verb, 'I wasted', with the attached -tu 'I' as its subject. The first-person doer rides as that suffix, and marked by qad before it the verb reads as a settled 'I have wasted'; no separate 'I' word is needed.
