Arabic vocabulary
How to say “west” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَكُونُ بَيْنَهُمَا كَمَا بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ
And it will be between them as between the east and the west.
وَالْمَغْرِب — and the west. The wa- coordinates this as the other pole of the 'between east and west' pairing, so it shares the (genitive); its al- makes it definite, 'the west'. It completes the simile's yardstick. The coordination ties it to its partner direction.
