How to say “with water” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
بَلَغَ مِنْ بِرِّهِ بِأَبِيهِ أَنَّ يَحْيَى كَانَ لاَ يَتَوَضَّأُ إِلَّا بِالْمَاءِ الْحَارِّ،
His dutifulness toward his father reached such a degree that Yahya would not perform ritual ablution except with hot water.
بِالْمَاءِ — with water. The bi- here means 'with / by means of', naming the substance used, and it fuses with a noun carrying al- 'the'. The preposition forces that noun into the genitive form. It is the exception the sentence allows: the only thing he would wash with.
